What people are saying about IHSA?

  • IHA's CEO Phil Brandl
  • StoreBound LLC
    Evan Dash - CEO
"We have been using the Shipper’s Association for the past 2 years. Using the IHSA, we have been able to realize significant savings while continuing to use our appointed freight forwarder. In addition to the cost savings, we have been extremely pleased with the level of service we received as well as the clout the association is able to leverage with the carriers. Whenever we have hot shipments or if our factories fail to deliver on time, the IHSA steps in to ensure we meet our customer’s deadlines."
  • ICI USA LLC
    Jeff Reicher - VP Operations
“We started very small with the Shippers Association and after many years, we have grown to over several hundred containers per year. They have allowed us to focus on our core business and not get distracted while they focused on their core business on our behalf. With their knowledge and expertise, they have negotiated competitive rates with many carriers giving us options during peak season when space is tight. When issues arise with the carriers, they step in and help to resolve. Our partnership with the Shippers Association is a good one that we value."
  • Certified International Corp.
    Steve Santulli - VP
"IHSA has been a perfect fit for my business. By having IHSA negotiate our shipping rates, I have more time to focus on managing and growing my business."

About Us

  • International Housewares Shippers Association (IHSA) is a leading logistics voice in the shipping industry. We are not ship owners, but transportation executives who work closely with an extensive portfolio of global and regional carriers. Our primary goal is to provide ocean freight savings for our members. Our success lies in our reputation, experience, influence and results. We emphasize building relationships with our members. These relationships are built on trust and collaboration ultimately leading to information that allows our members to make better decisions.

A flexible and responsive supply chain is vital to sustaining a competitive advantage and profitable growth in a global economy. The shipping solutions facilitated by IHSA not only improve your total supply chain performance, it creates stability that delivers consistent value to your customers and stakeholders. Our size allows us to provide a competitive advantage and maintain strong customer relations with our customers. As a result, we are more flexible and adjust faster to market conditions than our competitors.

  • Membership in IHSA is free and open to all companies belonging to the International Housewares Association (IHA). The size of your company does not matter to IHSA. Members range in size from shipping one container to members shipping thousands of containers on an annual basis.
  • IHSA is a not-for-profit association as required by the Federal Maritime Commission. Any funds in excess of operating expenses are reviewed by IHSA’s Board of Directors. Upon approval from the board, individual refund checks are sent to IHSA members.

The more the individual member participates, the greater the membership reward. Individual member rewards can vary on an annual basis from a few hundred dollars to over $50,000. Not only are IHSA members saving on their ocean freight, they are benefiting from an innovative revenue stream. We are proud of the fact that IHSA members have received over $1 million in refunds since 2005.

  • The shipping industry continues to evolve at a very fast pace. Some of the changes have proven to be beneficial for shippers while some have not. The one area of change that has proven to be disastrous for shippers is carrier support. As a way to cut costs, carriers have been steadily eliminating sales and sales support positions. Only the very largest shippers have special support teams assigned to their accounts to resolve issues. Because of our combined volume and relationships with our carriers, we have these same special support teams assigned to our account. If a member is experiencing an issue, we elevate it to the appropriate carrier support team for a fast resolution. The majority of the issues are resolved the same day or within 24 hours. Our job is to make participating in IHSA a stress-free process. No more 1-800 numbers to get customer service. We spend the time resolving the issue so members can focus on growing their business.
